EXSpeed™ High Speed
Treadmill Training Programs
High speed treadmill
training has
seen a steady
increase in popularity over recent years as a means of sports
performance enhancement for speed and power sports. The concept dates
back to the mid 1980’s. The concept was
derived
out of Soviet Olympic sprint training and their concept of overspeed
tow training.
Traditionally,
these programs have been designed around intense 6 week programs
narrowly focused on speed development by means of the
technology.
This
leads to questions about the transfer from one running surface to
another, injury rate concerns, and leaves us wondering about
integrating these short, intense cycles into the larger strength and
conditioning program.
"A Unique Tool"
EXSpeed™
is a truly unique treadmill training program which allows for
individualization of speed programs while
using it as a tool within the overall performance enhancement program.
"All in the Family"
EXSpeed™continues
to expand into the most comprehensive movement training system
available today. The foundation of the programs are the high speed
treadmills which allow coaches and trainers to push athletes to "Exceed
their Limits" and improve their speed and power in ways many athletes
never thought possible.
EXSpeed™started
as one program, which is still our best selling and most successful
program to date, but as time moves on and technology continues to grow,
we have introduced options of the EXSpeed™
program to fit the needs of any facility, training philosophy, and
budget. These options include:
Plyometric and Agility programs custom taylored to
fit with the high speed treadmill training protocols
Speed training protocols utilizing the Woodway
FORCE
treadmill to maximize power development of the athlete and provide a
different training stimulus for ground based training type workouts
Vibration training utilizing the Vibraflex to maximize the
neurological training effect and maximize power development.
Any or all of these options can be packaged with either the EXSpeed™ MAX
or EXSpeed™ PROprogram,
depending upon your treadmill selection. Below is an explanation
of the program options and a visual chart to help you better understand
what programs will fit your facility's needs the best. Also, keep in mind that all program options
include a metabolic training component. This is the ONLY
treadmill training program available which takes into account Anaerobic
Threshold, Max Heart Rate, and 2 minute recovery for prescribing
workout volume, intensity, and recovery tiimes.

Before we go any further, we need
to look at Speed
Training Basics. After reviewing the basics, we know that Stride
Length and Stride
Frequency are the major components with regards to sprinting.
There are multiple factors that affect these components.
Items
such as an athlete's ability to create power
and the efficiency of
their neuromuscular
system play important roles in these two
components. Sprint
Mechanics and Fitness
also play an important role with regards to sprint training. Without
proper sprint
mechanics, an athlete will waste energy because of a lack
of efficiency.
The metabolic
factors of Anaerobic Threshold, Maximum Heart Rate, and
Recovery Heart Rate are the major components of conditioning the speed
and power athlete.
